Unbelievable.  It's been torn down already - ripped to shreds without any kind of preservation order to save parts of it as it was being removed to make way for a new emergency structure.  I cannot imagine anywhere else in the Western World, beyond this province, where this would be allowed to happen to significant historic landmarks.  No words.

It is very sad to have to have the first blog entry of the year to be on the subject of the ruinous flooding this weekend, causing extensive damage to the Bell Bridge.  But that is the state of things in Hoyt as I write this.

A day out today to find all four of the bridges in Sunbury County south of Fredericton.

South Oromocto River No.2 (Smyth at Mill Settlement)

Back Creek No. 2 (Hoyt Station)

Rusagonis River No.2 (Patrick Owens)

The Patrick Owens bridge at Rusagonis, just south of Fredericton, is the only covered bridge in New Brunswick to feature a full length window along one side of it, making it much more interesting to photograph than the quality of my pictures here reflect.  A note on photographing this bridge: do not go early/mid morning, as the angle of the sun creates tough lighting to work with.  I was quite disappointed with mine when I got home.

The lesser viewed side of the Rusagonis bridge - no windows this side. This picture actually turned out okay because there was no glare from the sun into the lens.
